About Bangladesh Watchtower Society

The Bangladesh Watchtower Society (BWS) is a local society, registered in April 1998 under the Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860. It was also registered as a local NGO with the NGO Affairs Bureau in 2003. BWS is operated with voluntary donations. BWS currently serves as the legal agency in Bangladesh for an international Christian organization known as “Jehovah’s Witnesses.” Jehovah’s Witnesses are active in 240 lands and islands, including Bangladesh.

Activities of BWS

Translation and Publishing: BWS supports Bible education in Bangladesh, mainly for those with a Christian background, by furthering the distribution of Bibles and other Christian publications, all without charge. These publications include articles, videos and audio recordings in Bengali and Garo. Such publications can be found in over 1,000 languages on the official website of Jehovah’s Witnesses, jw.org® (www.jw.org), and in the JW Library® app (available in the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Apps, and Amazon App webstore). These help a wide range of people benefit from the Bible and its teachings in their native language. In 2020, the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures in Bengali was released, which was a milestone in the history of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bangladesh. BWS is currently working to translate the Hebrew Scriptures (commonly called the Old Testament) into Bengali.

Benefit to the Community

BWS contributes to the welfare of the community by supporting Bible-based educational work.
